THE STORY

Roots. Research. Everyday rituals.

A regional heritage

The argan tree is closely associated with south-west Morocco. Local communities developed knowledge of harvesting, processing and using its fruit.

Knowledge passed on

UNESCO recognizes practices and know-how concerning the argan tree. Oil preparation is part of a living cultural tradition, including knowledge transmitted by women.

Contemporary cosmetics

Argan-derived oil now appears in many cosmetic formats. A familiar botanical story should not be used to imply a specific cooperative or sourcing relationship without documentation.

SOURCE TO FORMULA

The ingredient journey.

It is obtained from kernels of the argan tree. Food-grade and cosmetic preparations are not interchangeable.

01

Harvest the fruit

Collect and prepare the fruit of the argan tree.

02

Recover the kernel

Separate the oil-bearing material from the outer fruit and shell.

03

Extract the oil

Traditional and modern methods obtain oil from the kernels.

04

Prepare for cosmetics

Assess quality and compatibility with the intended cosmetic system.

A LITTLE SCIENCE

From a Moroccan tree to the oil used in a hair-care formula.

Argan is the botanical source; argan oil is the prepared material obtained from the kernels. The oil contributes an emollient, smoothing character to cosmetic formulas. Its presence in a shampoo or conditioner does not make that product a pure oil or a treatment for hair loss.

IN PRACTICE

Make sense of the ingredient.

Dry-feeling hair

An emollient oil can contribute to surface softness and a smoother feel. This is different from repairing every form of structural hair damage.

Frizz-related routines

Conditioning helps manage the feel and appearance of hair. Weather, styling and the complete formula also influence frizz.

Culinary versus cosmetic

Products intended for food and cosmetics have different specifications and directions. One should not automatically be substituted for the other.

Hair-growth searches

Popular use of an oil does not establish hair-regrowth efficacy. Cosmetic conditioning and treatment of hair loss are separate subjects.

Plant source

Argan identifies the tree and the botanical story behind the ingredient.

Formula ingredient

Argan oil names the material that can be blended into a shampoo, conditioner or other cosmetic.

THE ENICA CONNECTION

Its place in our formulas.

Enica lists Argan oil in its Hair Shampoo and Hair Conditioner. In the shampoo it sits alongside ingredients such as Redensyl, Niacinamide and Biotin; the conditioner lists Argan oil, Biotin, Collagen and Keratin. The two formulas serve cleansing and conditioning roles, respectively.

Choose with care.

An oil’s origin does not prove a finished formula’s performance. Check tolerance before regular use.

The hydration study involved postmenopausal women and specific preparations, not Enica’s conditioner.
