THE STORY

Roots. Research. Everyday rituals.

Ayurvedic roots

Ashwagandha has a long place in Ayurvedic practice. Its traditional use belongs to a wider system of diet, daily routine and individual assessment, rather than a single isolated promise.

From plant to extract

Modern formulations use root, leaf or combinations of the two. This distinction explains why two products carrying the same ingredient name may have very different compositions.

Modern research

Clinical studies now examine defined preparations and specific outcomes. Stress and sleep are prominent research areas; evidence for many performance and hormonal claims remains limited.

SOURCE TO FORMULA

The ingredient journey.

Supplements use root, leaf, or combined extracts. Plant part and extract strength vary.

01

Plant identity

Confirm the botanical species and the plant part being used.

02

Preparation

Clean and prepare the selected root or leaf material.

03

Extraction

Use a defined extraction process to obtain the intended constituents.

04

Specification

Assess identity and composition before the extract enters a formula.

A LITTLE SCIENCE

A botanical with a long history. A formula with a clear purpose.

Ashwagandha contains withanolides, a family of naturally occurring compounds. Research has investigated particular root and root-and-leaf extracts for stress and sleep. The plant part, extraction method and amount matter: results from one standardized extract cannot establish the effect of every ashwagandha product.

IN PRACTICE

Make sense of the ingredient.

Stress and busy days

Some preparations have shown benefits for perceived stress. This is different from claiming that a supplement treats an anxiety disorder.

Evening routines

Sleep-related studies explore factors such as sleep quality. Results depend on the preparation, and sleep habits remain part of the picture.

Fitness-related searches

Exercise and testosterone claims are common online. These should not be treated as established benefits of every ashwagandha formula.

Choosing an extract

Look for the plant part, serving amount and extract specification. A larger number on its own does not explain the quality or suitability of a product.

Root or leaf

These are different starting materials. Their constituent profiles and research histories are not interchangeable.

Extract or whole powder

Extraction changes what is concentrated. Comparing only milligrams can miss this important difference.

THE ENICA CONNECTION

Its place in our formulas.

Enica lists ashwagandha in Viryodha and Relaxura. Viryodha pairs it with ingredients associated with a vitality-focused routine; Relaxura places it alongside Tagara, Jatamansi and Brahmi in an evening-focused formula. These are distinct product contexts, not the same preparation used for every goal.
