Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone involved in the body’s day-night timing. It is not simply a general relaxation herb.

THE STORY

Roots. Research. Everyday rituals.

1958: isolation

Lerner and colleagues isolated and characterized melatonin in 1958. The discovery opened a new field of research into the pineal gland and biological timing.

Circadian science

Research investigated how light, darkness and internal rhythms interact. Melatonin became part of a broader understanding of sleep timing.

Modern product formats

Tablets, liquids and sprays offer different ways to deliver a stated serving. Format alone does not establish faster or better sleep outcomes.

SOURCE TO FORMULA

The ingredient journey.

Supplement melatonin is most often made synthetically, although other production routes exist.

01

Ingredient identity

Establish the identity of the melatonin used in production.

02

Controlled production

Supplement ingredients are prepared through controlled manufacturing routes.

03

Dose consistency

Assess concentration and the consistency of the finished serving format.

04

Product directions

The stated serving and timing belong to the finished product label.

A LITTLE SCIENCE

A timing signal, understood in the context of a nightly routine.

Melatonin is a hormone involved in signalling biological night. Darkness and the body’s circadian system influence its production. A melatonin product is not simply a botanical sedative: its role in timing helps explain why light exposure and when it is used matter.

IN PRACTICE

Make sense of the ingredient.

Sleep timing and jet lag

Research supports some timing-related uses. That is a different claim from curing every cause of poor sleep.

Chronic insomnia

Evidence and recommendations for long-term insomnia differ from those for short-term timing problems. Persistent sleep difficulty deserves appropriate assessment.

Sprays versus tablets

A spray is a format choice. It does not by itself prove faster absorption, greater effectiveness or suitability for everyone.

A coherent evening routine

Light exposure, wake time and evening habits interact with sleep timing. Increasing a serving does not substitute for understanding the sleep problem.

Circadian timing

This is about when the body is prepared for sleep within its daily rhythm.

Sedation

Feeling drowsy is not the same as correcting a circadian mismatch or treating the underlying cause of insomnia.

THE ENICA CONNECTION

Its place in our formulas.

Enica’s Melatonin Oral Spray places melatonin in an oral-spray format for an evening routine. Serving information and the directions on the finished label are particularly relevant to a spray. Format alone does not establish a faster absorption rate or a stronger sleep effect.

Choose with care.

Timing matters. Discuss use with a clinician, especially for children, pregnancy, breastfeeding or medication use.

Evidence is strongest for selected timing-related uses. This does not establish an Enica spray dose, absorption advantage or treatment claim.
